Trinity School
Trinity school, known as Lekol Sen Trinitie, all began with one child—a terrific example of the power of one. Francique, one of the graduates of St. Joseph employed at Trinity, was walking to Trinity House one morning when he noticed a child standing barefoot and dirty along the cemetery wall. Francique stopped and asked the child why he was not in school. The child explained that his family was too poor to pay for his education. Francique went and met with the child’s family. When he arrived at the one-room shack the family called home, he noticed many other children from other poor families not going to school.
Francique was able to create a basic school for the children in the dining room of Trinity House since the resident boys were out during the day attending a local school in the community. He taught the basics of reading, writing, and math. Eventually more students enrolled and Francique hired an assistant. This humble beginning has grown into a vibrant school with professional teachers and 72 students from the neighboring slum. This year Trinity House is reaching out to local restaveks to provide a school on Saturdays as well.
