The Belinda Project

BELINDA

The Belinda Project is moving forward in raising awareness for the treatment of people with disabilities in Haiti, and we are starting to see some awareness of who we are and acknowledgment of what changes need to happen to make Haiti an opening and welcoming society for all.

Last week we delivered the packet of letters and information about The Belinda Project and asked for help in improving the health care options and treatment for people with disabilities to the Haitian Minister of Health and the four hospitals who turned Belinda away in September. A packet was also delivered to the Clinton Foundation's office in Haiti.

At one hospital, we actually got to deliver the letters into the hands of the director. Yet, she basically said to our faces, "We DO take in disabled people. We have a place for them. You have no proof that this actually happened. You can drop the letters off, but I am not sure what we can do." We believe she was trying to save herself from embarrassment, but still that is a blatant statement of what we are up against. The fight continues!

A very encouraging sign is that when KC was in Boston this week she went, unannounced, to the Clinton Foundation office there. When she walked in and said who she was, the person she was talking to said immediately, "Oh, are you from The Belinda Project?" And KC saw The Belinda Project letters at the office, waiting for President Clinton to read.

If you haven't sent your letter to the Clinton Foundation yet, you may still do so (please also send a copy to us at
thebelindaproject@gmail.com).

Letters may be sent to:
William J. Clinton Foundation
383 Dorchester Avenue, Suite 400
Boston, MA 02127

Thank you for your support and let's keep the fight for justice and equal treatment alive in Haiti!
