Renee Deitrich is working on getting visas for the Resurrection Dancers so that they may go on tour in the United States next week. They have been in the Dominican Republic for the past several days obtaining visas, as no visas are being issued from Haiti at this time. Rob Patterson visited The St. Joseph Family in Haiti this past weekend. Everyone there is doing well and in good spirits. Michael plans to move into the new house adjacent to the old St. Joseph’s home when the dance tour is over at the end of March. He plans to move eight of the boys from Jacmel into the new home.

2/7/10
Things are moving forward with the St. Joseph Family. Michael purchased a two story house adjacent to the damaged St. Joseph’s property. Hearts with Haiti provided a $100,000 down payment for the house. The new home is connected to the arts center, and will allow the new facility to be spread out over a larger area. Michael has also met with an architect and structural engineers. Demolition and removal of the damaged structure will begin soon.
Wings of Hope has moved into their new rental house located about 10 minutes from the old home. They have been fortunate enough to rent the house next to it for staff. Structural engineers have visited Wings, and will be meeting with the architect and Michael on Tuesday to discuss what needs to be done with the home.
John Unni, Hearts with Haiti board member, traveled to Haiti to be with the St. Joseph Family last week.
Cathy Mayo, who works with Cotting School, has successfully adopted Delmace from Wings. Read this heart warming story here. Tim Richmond, who also works with Cotting School, created a promotional video which can be seen here.

The attempt to bring Bill to the U.S. for medical care is underway. Miles reached Port au Prince and a physician has evaluated Bill. He has severe abdominal pain, broken ribs, etc. as he fell 7 stories. They will bring him back tomorrow and more than likely take him to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale. Prayers are in order.

We have just received a few photographs of the St. Joseph home from Renee Dietrich. Click here to see them.
We would like to lift up the family of Ben Larson. Ben was a senior at Warburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque and was a guest at St. Joseph’s at the time of the earthquake. His wife, Renee, made it out of the home but Ben did not. He died in the disaster and his family was notified yesterday. Please take a moment and pray for Ben and his family. Click here for more information about Ben.

Renee Deitrich sent an update about the St. Joseph family. Click here to see it. Bill and Ti Patrick are both out of the hospital. We are unsure of the extent of Bill’s injuries but he has broken ribs and possibly some back injuries. Ti Patrick has deep cuts and scrapes.
1/14/10 2:00pm
We would like to thank everyone for the many contributions through our on-line donation service. The St. Joseph family really needs continued financial support. We currently have no new information about the family as we are no longer able to reach the staff at St. Joseph’s by phone. We have a plan in place to fly a few Hearts with Haiti members to Port au Prince tomorrow. They will be bringing a satellite phone, a generator, and water purifiers to Michael. They will also assess the medical condition of Bill Nathan and Ti Patrick. If their condition is serious, they will bring them back to the United States for medical care. We will keep you updated as this mission unfolds.
1/12/10 2:00pm
Renee Dietrich who works at Wings of Hope says that all of the kids from the St. Joseph home and the Wings of Hope home are now in the front building at Wings of Hope. She stated that Bill and Ti Patrick were both seriously injured and they have been trying to get them into a hospital but all are full. Limited word from Jacmel is that Trinity House and the kids are okay. The road between Port au Prince and Jacmel is not passable.
1/12/10 8:00am
Communication with St. Joseph has been difficult. The St. Joseph house in Port au Prince has been devastated. The five floors beneath the chapel collapsed. Most of the kids were outside and all survived and are accounted for. Bill Nathan, the director, was in the chapel on the sixth floor at the time of the earthquake. He jumped down to a neighboring roof and worked his way to the ground. He is injured but stable, and is at the small clinic next door. There were guests traveling to Jacmel and they made it safely. As far as we know, the kids at Trinity are safe. Wings of Hope has structural damage but all the kids are safe and are living in the new kitchen.
1/11/10 6:30pm
A major earthquake struck 10 miles South of Port au Prince just before 5pm local time. There has been significant structural damage to St. Joseph’s and they are still accounting for everyone. Most of the damage was below the level of the chapel and most of the kids were outside during the event. Wings suffered structural damage but all are safe there. We will continue to keep you posted as news comes in.
